Just look for an oak tree.<\/em><\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you&#8217;re lucky, like me I have Oak trees on my property, so I gather acorns as they drop off the trees in the autumn. I set them aside to dry, in a cool dry spot. As the weather becomes colder, I take a hammer and crush up the acorns. I toss them around the outside pen and in areas where the chickens free-range. They love to peck at them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your chickens will love them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"246\" src=\"https:\/\/hazel-grove.ca\/hazelgrove\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/chicken_smile-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-288\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Acorns provide protein and carbohydrates.<br>Carbohydrates are a major source of energy for chickens, and protein is needed for egg building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/hazel-grove.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Screen-Shot-2019-09-21-at-9.57.21-AM.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-93\"\/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Acorns\u2026This time of year you&#8217;ll find an abundance of acorns.
