A Good Day to Bake

Last night we had our first taste of winter, only a couple of centimetres of snow. With the house being chilly I decided to bake. I had picked up a bag of apples at the market the other day, so I decided to bake an Apple Crumble.

This is my Moms recipe, it may even be one of my Grandmas. Try it, it’s simple, easy to make and delicious.

Mix together

  • ¼ cup brown sugar (packed) mix together the sugar, cinnamon & nutmeg
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp nutmeg
  • 6 large apples Peeled, cored & sliced. Place apple slices in a greased pan. Sprinkle over the apples the sugar, cinnamon & nutmeg.

Next in a bowl mix together and sprinkle over the apple mixture in the pan

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup brown sugar (packed)
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ cup shortening Cut in shortening, until it is a fine crumbly texture.

  • Bake at 400° F for 20 – 25 minutes or until nicely browned. Can be served warm or cold; with or without milk on it. I like French Vanilla Ice Cream on mine. A delicious dessert when you just don't feel like making a pie.
