maitake mushrooms, hen of the woods

Maitake Mushrooms

The Maitake mushrooms that I started growing back at the end of March are now fruiting.

Maitake mushrooms whether cultivated or grown in the wild have an intense flavour and a very nice texture, not that squeaky texture, but a delicate and feathery texture. Chefs love Maitake (Hen of the Woods).

Flavor & Texture

  • Distinct aroma
  • Rich, woodsy flavor

Preparation & Uses

  • Sauté in butter or oil
  • Use maitakes for a richer taste in any recipe calling for mushrooms
  • Use as main dish ingredient or in side dishes and soups
