A Natural Treat for Your Chickens This Fall & Winter

Acorns…This time of year you’ll find an abundance of acorns. Just look for an oak tree.

If you’re lucky, like me I have Oak trees on my property, so I gather acorns as they drop off the trees in the autumn. I set them aside to dry, in a cool dry spot. As the weather becomes colder, I take a hammer and crush up the acorns. I toss them around the outside pen and in areas where the chickens free-range. They love to peck at them.

Your chickens will love them.

Acorns provide protein and carbohydrates.
Carbohydrates are a major source of energy for chickens, and protein is needed for egg building.
